Mr P of P-Square has responded after an X user questioned why he is still making music at his age, saying it might be time for him to retire.
The critic wrote that they did not understand why an “almost 50-year-old man” was still singing and suggested retirement.
Reacting to the comment, media personality Do2tun pointed out that global stars such as Celine Dion, Shakira, Beyoncé, Busta Rhymes, Bruce Springsteen and Lionel Richie are still actively performing despite their ages.
Mr P later joined the conversation, thanking Do2tun for defending him and insisting that the criticism is simply another attempt to discredit him.
According to him, critics have previously claimed he could not sing, could only dance, and lacked talent, but have now shifted to attacking his age after those narratives failed.
He also accused some of holding Nigerian artistes to a different standard, noting that performers like Usher, Beyoncé and Chris Brown are celebrated for doing the same things he does on stage.
The singer added that many of his critics are still upset about P-Square’s breakup, stressing that he has no regrets about his solo career.
Mr P revealed that he recently signed a multi-million-dollar five-year deal with an international distribution company covering three albums, declaring that his “solo journey” is one of the best decisions he has ever made.
“It’s Mr P forever,” he wrote.
