A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure has ordered the remand of a man, Jimoh Wasiu, over allegations that he assaulted a woman and stripped her naked in Oba-Akoko, Ondo State.
The defendant was brought before the court by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, on a charge of assault.
Prosecuting counsel, P.O. Nwafor, told the court that the alleged offence was committed on May 4, 2026, at about 9:30 a.m. at Irefun Quarters, Oba-Akoko.
Nwafor alleged that Wasiu assaulted one Selimat Nasiru by striking her in the face before stripping her naked.
The prosecutor said the alleged act contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
His counsel, Adewale Adelakin, prayed the court to admit him to bail on liberal terms, assuring that he would not evade trial and would provide dependable sureties.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Sekoni further directed that the sureties must be residents within the court’s jurisdiction and ordered that their addresses be verified by the court registrar and orderly.
The defendant, however, failed to perfect the bail conditions and was remanded in police custody.
The case was subsequently adjourned to June 29, 2026, for hearing.
