Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has hit back at an X user who claimed that the police rescue operation of the abducted family members of former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu was orchestrated.
The controversy stems from a viral video capturing the moment security operatives rescued Adelabu’s sister and nephews. The victims were kidnapped on Wednesday, June 3, in Ibadan, Oyo State, and successfully freed by law enforcement on Saturday, June 6.
Reno had initially shared the footage on his verified X handle to commend Nigeria’s security agencies for their swift action. However, the post drew skepticism from an X user identified as Okafor Samuel, who alleged the footage was staged.
‘’Staged video, and someone was shut but there is no gun wound and setting was well arranged”
Responding to the critic, Reno wrote;
‘’Dear Okafor, Thank you for your feedback. If you have evidence that the video is fake and was staged, I encourage you to publish it.
Additionally, some of the k1dnappers were captured alive.
You may want to visit with them so you and the k1dnappers can compare notes.
Finally, I hope you are aware that spreading false information about security matters, which can cause panic and incite public disaffection against the constituted government of Nigeria, is a crime.
If and when you are traced and invited to provide evidence in support of your claims, I hope you can substantiate them, rather than whip up sentiment and claim you are being targeted.”
