A Nigerian woman, Onyedeke Chidinma, has suggested that couples who share ‘happy moments’ of their marriage online for external validation often break up faster than the private ones.
Using her case as an example, Chidinma recalled a period when she would come online to share happy things about her husband and marriage.
While her marriage seemingly appeared perfect online, behind closed doors, their relationship was struggling and marred by frequent quarrels, misunderstanding, conflicts.
“I have been on this social media for so long and I have noticed a pattern,” she wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
“Couple that share their happy moments, memories, lifestyle, love online, end up breaking up, divorcing or tearing apart after a few years.
“It is as if the online happy couples their happiness is short lived.
“I remember a time when I would come online to happily share things about my husband and my marriage, those were the period we recorded high rate of quarreling and misunderstanding in our marriage.
What am I trying to say? Dear happy couple, take your marriage, children and family away from social media, people can’t destroy what they don’t see.
Not every happy comment you see is actually happy for you, many are witches behind keypads. Be careful!!!!.”
