KanyiDaily recalls that Davido recently performed at the FIFA World Cup countdown concert wearing a customised leather jacket that carried a powerful message.

The jacket featured buttons displaying the names of schoolchildren and teachers who were recently kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

On the back of the jacket was a bold inscription that read, “BRING THEM HOME,” a call for the safe return of the abducted victims.

Reacting to the singer’s gesture, Peter Obi took to his X page on Sunday night to applaud Davido for bringing international attention to the issue of insecurity in Nigeria.

According to him, the award-winning artiste went beyond entertainment by using his influence to advocate for people who have remained in captivity for a long period.

“Davido’s impactful gesture in drawing global attention to Nigeria’s security challenges warrants commendation. He prominently displayed the names of schoolchildren who had been held captive for an extended period, advocating for their safe return.

“By utilizing his international platform, Davido effectively highlighted Nigeria’s security crisis, transcending mere entertainment”, Obi wrote.

Obi further stated that the security situation in Nigeria requires urgent attention from both local authorities and the international community, especially in light of what he described as the government’s inability to effectively tackle the problem.

The former Anambra State governor also revisited his earlier comments on Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He argued that the country’s absence from the tournament was not due to a lack of talent, pointing out that Nigerians continue to make their mark on the global stage through music and sports.

Obi noted that while Nigerian artistes are performing at major international events, many athletes of Nigerian origin are representing other countries at the World Cup.

According to him, these developments highlight the need for political leaders to create an environment where young Nigerians can thrive and fully develop their talents.

“Nigeria’s absence from the World Cup, as I previously stated, stems not from a lack of talent but from a conspicuous deficiency in political leadership that has failed to create an enabling environment for talent development,” Obi asserted.

“This assertion is underscored by two notable occurrences during the tournament: the vibrant participation and impressive performances of Nigerian artists, and the presence of numerous Nigerians representing other nations on the field.

“These observations present a significant imperative for Nigeria’s political leaders to actively foster an environment in which the nation’s youth can fully realize their potential.”
