Court sentences man to life imprisonment for r@ping 11-year-old child in Calabar

A Family Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State has sentenced a 41-year-old man, Endurance Ime Sandy to life imprisonment for r@ping an 11-year-old child. 

 

 

The Family Court II, presided over by Hon. Justice Blessings Obin Egwu, convicted Sandy on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. 

 

 

Reacting to the judgment, James Ibor, a lawyer and founder of Basic Rights Council Initiative (BRCI), the organisation which secured the conviction, commended the Nigerian Army, Police Force, the state authorities, and justice sector actors for their roles in securing justice.

 

“We express our sincere appreciation to the Nigerian Army (13 Brigade, Calabar), the Nigeria Police Force, Cross River State, the Honorable Attorney General of Cross River State, Etubom Ededem Ani, and the volunteers of the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative for the invaluable support they provided to the investigators and the child throughout the course of this case. A big thank you to Okoi Ukam,Esq and Mrs Linda Asuquo,” he wrote.

 

“We also thank the Cross River State Government for its unwavering commitment to protecting children and ensuring their safety.”
