A woman has lost her life, while three men have suffered injuries in a road accident involving a trailer truck at Kariminga in the North East Region.
The incident took place on Thursday, June 18, when a trailer transporting Twyford tiles from Takoradi to Burkina Faso veered off the road and collided with several trees.
A statement released on Thursday by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) indicated that a distress call was received at 9:48 a.m., which led to the dispatch of a rescue team from the Upper East Regional Headquarters Sub-Station to the location.
Upon their arrival, firefighters discovered four individuals trapped within the severely damaged trailer head. Three male victims were successfully extricated and transported by the National Ambulance Service to the Upper East Regional Hospital for medical attention.
Unfortunately, the female occupant was found deceased at the scene.
Her remains were handed over to the police for preservation and further investigation.
The rescue operation was directed by Station Officer I Bright Atimbiok, along with a six-member crew, receiving assistance from the Bolgatanga Municipal Commander, DO II Callistus Nibunu, and other senior officials.
Initial investigations suggest that the trailer was en route from Takoradi to Burkina Faso when a tricycle allegedly crossed its path at Kariminga.
In an effort to avoid a collision, the driver reportedly swerved into a ditch before crashing into several trees.
The collision caused significant damage to the trailer head and destroyed a substantial portion of the cargo, although some boxes of tiles were recovered.
The rescue operation concluded at 1:40 p.m., while investigations are ongoing to ascertain the precise cause of the accident.
