“Police Handed My Wife to Kaduna Mob, Watched Them Burn Her Alive” — Husband

Aliyu Muhammed, a 42-year-old mechanic, has alleged that police officers handed his wife, Ummulkhairi Muhammed, to an angry mob that lynched and set her ablaze after she was accused of attempted child trafficking in Kaduna State.

In an interview with Punch Newspapers, Muhammed said his wife was on her way to an Islamiya school when he received a call informing him she had been detained over an unverified allegation. He said a friend helped secure police intervention, and she was taken to a police station for her safety.

Muhammed claimed his sister, who accompanied his wife, later told him the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) dragged Ummulkhairi out of the station despite pleas not to release her because of the waiting mob.

“Once my wife was pushed outside by the DPO, the mob descended on her, beat her, placed her motorcycle on top of her and set both her and the motorcycle ablaze,” he alleged.

Muhammed said his wife, 35, left behind four children and called for a thorough investigation into the DPO’s alleged role. He also urged authorities to ensure justice, noting that no suspect should be punished without due process. He added that he had been informed about 22 arrests but had not received official confirmation from the police.
