A man, Gbolahan, has asked the Grade Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, to dissolve his nine-year marriage to his wife, Sarah, over alleged infidelity, violence, incessant quarrels and threats to his life.
According to Tribune Online, Gbolahan alleged that Sarah was involved in a relationship with a tricycle driver, to whom she regularly sent affectionate messages. He also claimed she frequently quarrelled with neighbours, forcing the family to relocate four times within eight years.
The plaintiff admitted dating two female members of his church, alleging that after Sarah discovered the relationships, she became increasingly hostile, assaulted him and repeatedly threatened him with a knife. He said he moved out of their matrimonial home last year for his safety but claimed she continued to harass and publicly humiliate him.
Gbolahan is seeking custody of two of their three children, unrestricted access to the third, and a court order restraining Sarah from threatening him or invading his privacy. He also accused her of neglecting the children’s welfare.
Sarah denied the allegations but told the court she was willing to end the marriage. Court President Mrs. S. M. Akintayo adjourned the case for the defence.
