2027: People of the South-East Region Will Gladly Reject Their Own Son, PO, and Vote for Tinubu — Umahi

Minister of Works David Umahi has expressed confidence that voters in the South-East will support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 despite the region being the political base of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

According to Vanguard on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Umahi made the remarks while leading members of the Presidential Media Team and Renewed Hope Ambassadors on an inspection of ongoing federal projects across the South-East.

He said the region has received unprecedented attention under Tinubu’s administration, particularly through road construction and rehabilitation projects, arguing that this has strengthened public support for the President.

“The people of the South-East region will gladly reject their own son, Peter Obi, and vote for President Tinubu in next year’s election,” Umahi said.

The minister also claimed the South-East made the wrong political choice in the 2023 presidential election by backing Obi, adding that residents have since reassessed their position after witnessing what he described as tangible progress under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He maintained that continued infrastructure development would further boost support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
