The family of slain Benue State Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) Chairman, Alhaji Ardo Risku Muhammad, says he was ambushed and killed after attending a police-convened peace meeting in Ohimini Local Government Area.
According to Daily Trust, Muhammad was shot dead on Friday while returning from the meeting alongside his associate, Yakubu Isah.
His eldest son, Muhammad Idris, said his father had initially planned to travel by car but switched to a motorcycle because of the poor condition of the road.
“He initially intended to travel in his car but later opted for a motorcycle due to the poor state of the road,” Idris said.
Idris said his father attended the meeting after an invitation from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Idekpa. He added that Muhammad was surprised to find only the DPO and a few community elders present, despite being told that the Ohimini Local Government Chairman and the Ado of Ohimini would also attend.
According to the family, Muhammad and Isah were attacked and killed while returning from the meeting, raising concerns over the circumstances surrounding the fatal ambush.
