Residents of the Kosofo riverine communities in the Niger Delta have declared their support for the African Action Congress (AAC), citing years of neglect despite their previous loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Community members said they had consistently supported the APC during elections in the hope that their needs would be addressed. However, they alleged that promises made during campaigns were not fulfilled, leaving the communities without adequate infrastructure, healthcare, schools, clean water and economic opportunities.
According to the residents, deteriorating living conditions and the continued lack of basic amenities prompted their decision to withdraw support from the ruling party.
They said their backing of the AAC reflects a desire for more responsive leadership and improved living standards rather than continued allegiance based on past political affiliations.
The development highlights growing dissatisfaction among some grassroots communities and could have broader political implications if similar sentiments emerge in other underserved areas. Residents maintained that political support should be earned through performance and accountability, not campaign promises alone.
