“I’m tired of being called an actress” — Actress Ayobami Ojo opens up over stigma attached to her profession

Nollywood actress Ayobami Ojo has expressed frustration over what she describes as the stigma attached to being an actress, saying she no longer wants to be identified by the title.

In a video making the rounds online, Ayobami said she stopped actively acting a long time ago, adding that even during her years in the industry, she never lived the kind of life people often assume actresses do.

She recalled losing out on a land purchase after the seller allegedly backed out because his wife didn’t want him selling property to an actress.

She also narrated another incident where a landlord reportedly refused to rent her a building for her business after discovering she was an actress.

According to her, the stereotype also affected her personal life, as she claimed a man’s family once discouraged him from marrying her simply because of her profession.

The actress ended the emotional video by pleading with people to stop referring to her as an actress, insisting she has worked hard for everything she owns and has done nothing wrong to deserve the judgment.

I’m tired of being called an actress. Please stop calling me an actress. I have never done anything wrong. Everything I have, I worked for, she said.
