Even Obi Was One of Those Shouting That He Came Into the Coalition to Rescue Nigeria – Owokoniran

Hon. Abdulrahman Owokoniran, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-West Zonal Secretary, has expressed confidence that the ADC can challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections despite divisions within the opposition.

Speaking in an interview with Independent Nigeria, Owokoniran dismissed claims that the opposition’s chances depend solely on the unity of prominent political figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi.

He argued that widespread public dissatisfaction with the current administration had created a favourable environment for an alternative political platform, questioning whether the government had done enough to justify seeking another term.

Owokoniran also criticised what he described as attempts by some regional political actors to gain public sympathy, insisting such efforts would not alter the political landscape.

“Those people do not drop from heaven. We have a government that is doing so badly that nothing is working. Even Obi was shouting he came into the coalition to make sure that we rescue Nigeria. Now, these people are saying because there is division, we’re not serious. Who is not serious? They’re the ones who are not serious,” he said.

He maintained that the ADC remains prepared to engage voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
