Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for greater inclusion of women in politics across Africa, highlighting their contributions to governance and society.
In a video shared by Advocacy For Good Governance on Monday, Obi reflected on his tenure as governor of Anambra State, saying the majority of his cabinet members were women, including his Chief of Staff, Commissioner for Education and Commissioner for Finance.
He also recalled working closely with women during his time as chairman of Fidelity Bank Plc, describing their contributions as significant to the institutions they served.
Emphasising the role of women in families and society, Obi said many people acknowledge the care and support provided by mothers.
“All men can testify that their mothers were more caring than their fathers; my children say that every day to me,” he said.
Obi maintained that increasing women’s participation in politics and leadership would strengthen governance and contribute to the development of African countries.
