The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed a Federal High Court judgment nullifying its registration as a political party and confirmed that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.
According to Premium Times on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, set aside its earlier order directing INEC to register the NDC after the Peace Movement Party (PMP) argued it was not joined in the original suit. The court ruled that all relevant parties must be heard and restored the status quo pending the substantive hearing.
NDC National Leader Seriake Dickson said the party had filed an appeal and an application for a stay of execution, both of which had been served on INEC. He expressed confidence the appeal would succeed.
Dickson also said INEC granted the NDC access to its nomination portal, allowing it to upload candidates for the 2027 general elections. He confirmed Peter Obi’s nomination had been submitted, while the vice-presidential candidate’s details and other nominations were still being processed.
The Court of Appeal had not fixed a hearing date as of the time of reporting.
