ISWAP: “When I Called My Daughter, She Cried and Said, ‘Forgive Me, Baba, They Have Abducted Us’” – Adamu

Adamu Lassa has recounted the final phone call with his daughter, Wamdai, before she was abducted during an attack on Government Day Secondary School in the Lassa community of Askira/Uba Local Government Area, Borno State.

According to a report by Daily Trust published on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants stormed the school on Monday, causing panic among students, staff, and residents as gunfire disrupted classes.

Security forces, supported by local hunters, launched a counter-operation that rescued nine students and one teacher. One soldier and one local hunter were killed during the firefight, while several victims remain missing.

A follow-up security operation on Tuesday failed to secure additional rescues, deepening fears among affected families.

Recalling his daughter’s call, Lassa said, “She was crying, saying, ‘Forgive me, Baba, they have taken us.’ Then a man took the phone and told me they would be safe.”

The fate of the remaining abductees remains unknown, leaving the community in continued anxiety.
