“Wike, Stop Confusing Us. If a Party Has Died, Allow It to Die” – Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has mocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the opposition party should be allowed to fade away if it is no longer politically relevant.

According to a Punch report published on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Akpabio made the remark during the inauguration of Akinwumi Ajibola Street in Abuja, where he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

While acknowledging dignitaries at the event, Akpabio expressed surprise that the PDP was still being discussed and directed his comments at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, a member of the party.

“Wike, stop confusing us. If a party has died, allow it to die,” Akpabio said, adding that he had no interest in discussing what he described as a politically dead party.

His remarks came shortly after he recognized Senator Olaka Nwogu, who recently won the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election on the PDP platform.

Akpabio later praised Wike’s performance as FCT minister, commending the ongoing infrastructure development projects across Abuja.
