Political activist Idris Zekeri has questioned aspects of the 2023 presidential election, arguing that Peter Obi enjoyed stronger support in some areas than was reflected in the official results.
Speaking on Arise TV on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Zekeri said concerns about electoral outcomes continue to shape political discourse as parties prepare for the 2027 general election.
“Obio/Akpor is the local government area of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the FCT,” Zekeri said while alleging that Peter Obi won the local government area during the 2023 presidential election despite the officially declared results.
He stressed that electoral transparency is essential to strengthening public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process, arguing that election results should accurately reflect the will of the electorate.
Zekeri also called for reforms to improve the credibility of elections, including transparent result management and strict compliance with electoral laws. He urged political stakeholders to pursue electoral grievances through lawful and peaceful means while encouraging Nigerians to remain actively engaged in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 general election.
