Buhari Adamu, a suspected kidnapper arrested by police, has allegedly admitted that members of his gang spent ransom proceeds on personal pleasures.
Speaking in a video published on Arise News’ official YouTube channel on July 1, 2026, Adamu said, “We use the money we get from ransoms to buy clothes, drinks and enjoy life.”
The statement was made during a police parade of suspects linked to a kidnapping syndicate accused of carrying out abductions, demanding ransoms and killing victims.
Police said intelligence gathering and digital surveillance led operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad to arrest Adamu and another suspect, Abubakar Saidu. Officers also recovered an AK-47 rifle, live ammunition, cattle and sheep allegedly acquired with proceeds from the gang’s kidnapping operations.
The briefing included testimonies from relatives of victims, who described the emotional, physical and financial impact of the attacks, including the loss of loved ones and injuries sustained during the incidents.
Police said Adamu’s statement forms part of the ongoing investigation as efforts continue to identify and arrest other suspected members of the kidnapping network.
