Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has said Nigeria’s security challenges require both practical action and divine intervention, while urging Christians to reject retaliation and promote peaceful coexistence.
Speaking during an address in Washington, D.C., in a video shared on YouTube on July 1, 2026, Adeboye said lasting solutions to insecurity cannot depend on political leadership alone. “It doesn’t matter who you elect into office. If God does not help us,” he said, adding that criticism over Nigeria’s insecurity has strengthened his resolve to pray for the country.
Adeboye appealed to his audience in the United States to use their influence to support peace and stability in Nigeria through diplomatic engagement.
Rejecting calls for revenge against Muslims, he said, “I don’t even want a Muslim to die because they are my potential brother,” adding jokingly, “If you kill them, who will I have to convert?”
The cleric maintained that Christians have also been victims of terrorism and said, “Not one attack can be traced to a Christian.” He urged listeners not to interpret his concerns about persecution as support for violence, stressing instead the need for dialogue, diplomacy and continued prayers.
