Minister of Works Dave Umahi has defended the Tinubu administration’s road infrastructure projects, saying former Senate President David Mark undermined his own argument by questioning the government’s emphasis on road construction.
Speaking on Wednesday at the launch of the Akwanga–Jos Super Highway project, Umahi praised Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike for responding to Mark’s criticism of the administration’s infrastructure drive.
According to Daily Post, Mark had argued that roads alone could not address the economic hardship facing Nigerians and urged the government to focus on other pressing challenges. In response, Wike recalled the poor condition of the Abuja–Otukpo road during Mark’s tenure as Senate President, insisting that road infrastructure remains essential to national development.
Backing Wike’s position, Umahi said roads are critical for connecting communities, boosting trade and driving economic growth.
“I want to thank the factional chairman of ADC, my namesake, David Mark. He was going to say that Tinubu has done very well in infrastructure… but my brother Wike has replied him. Because he damaged himself by saying, ‘Is it road that we will chop?'” Umahi said.
