Austin Okai, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed confidence in the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 presidential election, claiming that public sentiment in Northern Nigeria already favours the opposition.
Speaking in an interview published on the Arise News YouTube channel on Thursday, July 2, 2026, Okai said the ADC remained optimistic despite not having officially launched its campaign.
“We have not even started campaigning, but the North has already decided who will become the next president in 2027,” he said.
Okai attributed the opposition’s confidence to what he described as growing public dissatisfaction with the current administration over economic hardship, insecurity and governance challenges. He added that the party believes its choice of candidates will strengthen its appeal across different regions of the country.
The ADC chieftain said the party plans to expand its support base in the South-West and South-South while presenting its policies as a credible alternative. He added that grassroots mobilisation would intensify once the party officially begins campaigning for the 2027 general election.
