Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has directed the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, to provide comprehensive medical screening and treatment for victims recently freed from captivity in Eda Oniyo.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, the governor also instructed the State Ministry of Health and Human Services to oversee the victims’ welfare, with the state government covering all medical expenses.
The victims were abducted on April 28, 2026, during a programme at Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area. During the attack, gunmen killed a pastor, while one of the abducted victims later died in captivity. The remaining victims regained their freedom in the early hours of Saturday and will remain under medical supervision until they are certified fit to reunite with their families.
Oyebanji thanked President Bola Tinubu, security agencies, the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eda Oniyo community leaders, the Christian Association of Nigeria and other stakeholders for their roles in securing the victims’ release. He also urged residents to avoid politicising the incident and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while extending condolences to the family of the victim who died in captivity.
