The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has said God does not desire believers to die before their appointed time, insisting that He is “not in a hurry” to take His children home.
Speaking during a recent sermon shared on YouTube, Adeboye encouraged Christians to embrace God’s promise of long life and reject the fear of premature death. Citing the opening chapters of Genesis, he said the long lifespans of biblical figures reflected God’s original plan for humanity.
He referenced Methuselah’s 969-year lifespan and said death was not part of God’s initial purpose. According to Adeboye, God later prevented humanity from eating from the tree of life out of compassion, so people would not remain forever in a fallen state, while continued disobedience led to progressively shorter lifespans.
The cleric also cited Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses, noting that longevity declined over time as a consequence of sin rather than God’s perfect will. “The plan of God is not that you should die. So He is not in a hurry to take you home,” he said, praying that believers would not die before their time and declaring a “new season of joy.”
Adeboye added that Jesus consistently overcame death during His earthly ministry, urging Christians to trust God’s power to preserve and sustain them.
