According to the Manchester Evening News, Marcus Rashford said he wanted his club future resolved before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to avoid transfer speculation distracting him during England’s campaign.
“I wanted it done before the World Cup started, and if not, I wouldn’t deal with it until after,” the Manchester United forward said, adding that his priority was to remain fully focused on international duty.
Rashford’s future has been uncertain following a difficult spell at Manchester United, where reports said he fell out of favour under former manager Ruben Amorim before joining Aston Villa on loan for the second half of the 2024–25 season. He scored four goals and provided six assists in 17 appearances.
The England international then spent the 2025–26 campaign on loan at Barcelona, registering 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 matches across all competitions. However, the Spanish club reportedly declined to activate a £26 million permanent transfer option and instead signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
Rashford is now expected to return to Manchester United after the World Cup, with his long-term future likely to be decided during the summer transfer window as several European clubs monitor his situation.
