Reno Omokri, the Nigerian ambassador-designate to Mexico, has slammed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s detractors, saying that they are blind to the good things that have happened under their watch, even if petrol and petrol prices have dropped.
Omokri announced on his social media that petrol and diesel prices had fallen this week and were predicted to fall even more next week. He stood firm in his belief that the development was true and challenged his fellow Nigerians to check the claim.
He claims that many people who normally speak out against the government whenever petrol prices go up have said nothing in response to the recent cuts.

President Tinubu was not lauded by you, nevertheless. But he warned that you would be among the first to condemn the president if the opposite occurred and they rose.
While making his case, Omokri cited Nigeria’s rise to the position of best-performing African economy in the 2026 International Institute for Management Development (IMD) World Competitiveness Ranking. Because it was a public relations boon for the Tinubu administration, he said, the accomplishment went unrecognised.
He insisted that if the survey had ranked Nigeria’s economy among the worst in Africa, the reaction would have been different.
The ex-presidential assistant went on to say that many Nigerians have “confirmation bias” against their nation because they only pay attention to the bad news and ignore the good.
Bringing attention to changes in the field of education, Omokri praised President Tinubu for keeping what he called a three-year academic calendar free of strikes in Nigerian universities, urging students and their families to appreciate the value of uninterrupted academic activities.
Additionally, he spoke out in support of Oluremi Tinubu’s (Nigeria’s First Lady) efforts to empower women economically. Omokri countered the claims made against her “Akara economy” program by saying that it has given tens of thousands of women the skills they needed to get jobs like making bean cakes, roasting maize, and processing garri.
He argues that encouraging productive self-employment of any size is preferable to unemployment and that it is better to create chances for small-scale enterprises.
At the end of his speech, Omokri urged Nigerians to look on the bright side, saying that the country was progressing greatly under President Tinubu’s leadership and that people should be happy to praise the government as much as they criticise it.
