Former Liverpool forward Rinsola Babajide says choosing to represent Nigeria over England has been a blessing, reflecting on her international career ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Born in London to Nigerian parents, Babajide represented England at Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 levels and was part of the squad that won bronze at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. After leaving Liverpool for Real Betis in 2022, she switched her international allegiance to Nigeria, making her Super Falcons debut in 2023.
Speaking in an interview published by the Nigeria Football Federation, Babajide expressed gratitude to both countries for shaping her career.
“I’ve been blessed to have the best of two worlds. England helped me develop my game from age-grade football; I am forever grateful for that. I have continued to grow as an experienced player with Nigeria and I do not take this for granted,” she said.
Babajide was part of the Super Falcons squad that won the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, securing Nigeria’s record-extending 10th continental title. Now with Roma, she said the team is motivated to defend its crown at the 2026 tournament in Morocco despite expecting a tougher challenge.
