Media entrepreneur and politician Dele Momodu has said Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, remains politically dominant in Nigeria’s South-East, arguing that financial resources alone cannot weaken his support in the region.
Speaking during an interview on Nevon HQ on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Momodu said Obi continues to enjoy overwhelming backing across the South-East despite the evolving political landscape.
“If the City Boys Movement like let them put ₦10 trillion, ₦20 trillion in the South-East, for as long as Obi is on the ballot, they cannot beat him,” Momodu said.
He argued that Obi’s popularity in the region extends beyond campaign spending or political mobilisation, making it difficult for opponents to secure victory there through financial influence alone.
Momodu’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions about political alignments ahead of future elections. His comments reflect his opinion that regional support will remain a key factor in determining electoral outcomes in Nigeria.
