I’ve Been a Classroom Teacher Before, My Teaching Exercise Was in Ikole Ekiti 40 Years Ago — Oluremi Tinubu

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has reflected on her early career as a classroom teacher, revealing that one of her teaching practice assignments was in Ikole-Ekiti, Ekiti State, about 40 years ago.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Saturday, July 11, 2026, the First Lady described the experience as a significant part of her personal and professional journey. She noted that although she has not returned to Ikole-Ekiti since completing the assignment, the memories remain meaningful.

“Me up here, I have been a classroom teacher before. One of my classroom teaching exercise was in Ikole Ekiti. I have never been to Ikole Ekiti since then. I’m talking about 40 years ago, but my experience was great,” she said.

Oluremi Tinubu said her time in the classroom gave her firsthand experience of working with students and communities, shaping her appreciation for the importance of education in national development. She added that teachers play a vital role in nurturing future generations and called for continued support for educators across the country.
