Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has shared a video of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, calling attention to the socio-economic challenges facing Northern Nigeria.
In a post on his X account, Olayinka endorsed the monarch’s remarks, urging leaders in the region to take the issues more seriously. “When we are ready for the real conversation, especially in the North, we will listen more to people like this and act on their warnings,” he wrote.
In the video, Sanusi highlighted widespread poverty, the growing number of out-of-school children and the implications for security and national development. He urged political and traditional leaders to take urgent action to address the challenges before they worsen.
The Emir also said governance and public policies, including the implementation of Sharia law, should focus on improving the welfare and well-being of citizens rather than existing only in principle.
Olayinka’s post has sparked renewed discussions on social media about poverty, education, governance and the need for sustainable development in Northern Nigeria.
