Professor Okey has recalled serving on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign team, revealing that the party once introduced an interactive campaign that offered a ₦1 million prize to participants.
Speaking on Channels Television while discussing political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general election, the political analyst said modern electioneering requires parties to adopt practical and engaging strategies rather than relying solely on criticism of opponents.
“I was on the presidential campaign team of the PDP and we put out a quiz, ‘Quote Buhari and win 1 million naira,'” he said.
According to Prof. Okey, the initiative was designed to encourage Nigerians to pay closer attention to political messages, public debates and the electoral process.
He argued that opposition parties seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 must focus on organisation, effective messaging and sustained voter engagement. He added that every move by the ruling party should be met with a clear, practical response, stressing that elections are won through persuasive ideas, grassroots mobilisation and consistent public outreach. He also said interactive initiatives can boost voter interest and awareness when properly executed.
