Manchester United have reportedly opened talks over a move for Roma midfielder Manu Kone as the club continues its summer recruitment following the signing of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.
According to Metro Sport, United completed the £35 million signing of the Belgium international, making him the club’s third addition of the transfer window after the arrivals of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer.
The report said strengthening the midfield has been a priority for manager Michael Carrick following Casemiro’s departure.
Although United explored moves for several midfield targets earlier in the transfer window, attention has now shifted to Kone. The France international, valued at about £51 million, impressed during the World Cup and is viewed as a player capable of adding energy and balance to the midfield.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Manchester United have already made contact with Kone’s representatives, with discussions expected to progress after the conclusion of the tournament.
The club is also looking to strengthen its attack, with a left-sided winger and an additional forward understood to be among Carrick’s priorities ahead of the new season.
Marcus Rashford has returned to Old Trafford after Barcelona decided against making his move permanent, although United are reportedly willing to consider offers as they reshape their attacking options.
Speaking after completing his move, Tielemans said joining Manchester United was a proud moment in his career.
“It’s hard to describe just how proud I am to join Manchester United. This is a special club, and I’m determined to achieve more here,” he said, adding that the squad is fully focused on competing for major honours.
Director of football Jason Wilcox described Tielemans as “one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League,” praising his leadership qualities and technical ability.
Former United midfielder Nicky Butt also welcomed the signing, calling it “a phenomenal signing,” while Paul Scholes said Tielemans brings valuable experience but stressed that the club still needs greater squad depth to compete in the UEFA Champions League.
