Founder and pioneer National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has expressed confidence that the party’s 2027 presidential ticket will remain unaffected by the ongoing leadership dispute and legal challenges within the party.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Nwosu reacted to the recent Court of Appeal judgment on the ADC leadership crisis, insisting that the ruling does not affect the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, or his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi.
According to Nwosu, the court’s decision focused on issues relating to the party’s congresses and did not invalidate the process through which the presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates were nominated.
He maintained that the candidates emerged through direct primaries conducted separately from the congresses and argued that the exercise complied with the ADC Constitution and the party’s internal electoral guidelines.
“I can assure you, and I want to make this point: no matter what happens, no matter how the powers of the moment want to do it, after the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi will become President and Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Nwosu said.
He also defended the role of the party’s National Working Committee in conducting the direct primary election, stating that the process was properly organised and involved registered party members across the country.
Nwosu disclosed that the ADC’s legal team had reviewed the Court of Appeal judgment and remained satisfied that the party’s nomination process was legally valid. According to him, the legal advice received reinforced the party’s confidence that the court proceedings would not affect the status of its presidential ticket.
He argued that the leadership dispute and ongoing litigation should not be viewed as obstacles to the party’s preparations for the 2027 general election, adding that the ADC remains focused on its political agenda despite the legal challenges.
Nwosu reiterated that neither political pressure nor court cases would prevent Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi from contesting the 2027 presidential election on the ADC platform.
