Mr. Olatunde Zacchaeus, one of the teachers abducted during the Oriire school attack in Oyo State, has recounted how he and other victims initially mistook their rescuers for another group of kidnappers.
Speaking in an interview with Nigeria Info FM, Zacchaeus said the victims trekked for more than one hour and 30 minutes after being released before encountering two men in the forest with two buses.
According to him, the group became frightened because the men were speaking Hausa and identified themselves as Department of State Services (DSS) officers. Zacchaeus said he remained skeptical, especially after noticing the buses had no number plates, tinted windows, and Arabic inscriptions.
He said the situation was resolved after the officers called someone who spoke to the victims in Yoruba and assured them that the DSS team had been sent by the Federal Government to rescue them.
“What made us panic more was that they were speaking Hausa. When we asked them to show us their ID cards, they just smiled and said the government had sent them. I told my principal I was afraid because the buses had no number plates and had tinted windows. I also saw Arabic inscriptions on one of the buses,” Zacchaeus said.
