Niger Delta activist and traditional leader Asari Dokubo says he has chosen to remain in Nigeria despite having close family members living abroad, describing his decision as a reflection of his commitment to the country.
In a video shared on Facebook on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Dokubo discussed his family background, personal beliefs, and dedication to Nigeria.
“My brother is in the U.S., and my children are scattered all over the world, but I did not run away,” he said, explaining that he has remained in Nigeria throughout his public life despite opportunities to relocate.
Dokubo noted that while many of his relatives live overseas, including a brother in the United States and children residing in different countries, he has stayed because of his strong attachment to his homeland and personal convictions.
He added that people are free to choose where they live, with such decisions influenced by individual values, family circumstances, and personal aspirations.
According to Dokubo, having relatives abroad does not diminish a person’s commitment to Nigeria or their contribution to national development. He urged Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, to support the country’s progress through service, accountability, and active civic engagement.
