Peter Obi has rejected claims that his political influence has declined since the 2023 presidential election, saying his support base has grown ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking in an interview shared by NevonHQ on Monday, July 20, 2026, Obi responded to questions about his current political strength, particularly amid reports that some South-East governors and political leaders have aligned with President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Obi said his political movement now has elected federal lawmakers supporting it.
> “I have two senators and 11 members of the House of Representatives, so it has actually improved.”
The former Anambra State governor said he contested the 2023 presidential election without the backing of any governor, minister, commissioner, local government chairman, or councillor. He argued that the presence of senators and members of the House of Representatives within his camp shows that his movement has gained ground since then.
Obi maintained that his greatest strength comes from ordinary Nigerians rather than endorsements from political officeholders. He added that his focus remains on presenting solutions to Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges and advocating for free, fair, and credible elections.
He expressed confidence that Nigerians would continue to support leaders based on competence and integrity, saying his commitment remains centred on national development and improving the lives of citizens.
