Chelsea have continued negotiations over the potential signing of Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Monday, July 20, 2026.
The update came just hours after Chelsea confirmed the signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, indicating the club’s transfer business is still ongoing ahead of the new season.
Romano reported that talks between Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Lacroix’s representatives are continuing, although no agreement has yet been reached. Discussions are expected to continue in the coming days.
Chelsea regard the 26-year-old French centre-back as a key defensive target, citing his athleticism, composure in possession and ability to read the game. Since joining Crystal Palace from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, Lacroix has established himself as a regular starter, with his Premier League performances attracting interest from several leading European clubs.
Reports also indicate Lacroix is open to a move to Stamford Bridge. However, Crystal Palace are expected to maintain their valuation and will only consider an offer they deem acceptable.
Following the arrival of Rogers, Chelsea remain focused on strengthening their defence before the summer transfer window closes.
