According to a report by Vanguard, on Sunday June 28, 2026, Minister of Works David Umahi has expressed confidence that voters in the South-East will back President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election despite the region being the political base of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Umahi made the statement while speaking during an inspection of ongoing federal projects in the South-East, according to him, many people in the region have become convinced that Tinubu’s administration is delivering key infrastructure projects and development initiatives that directly affect their lives.
The minister argued that support for the President is growing across the South-East because of what he described as visible progress in road construction and other federal projects, he said residents are increasingly appreciating the attention being given to the region by the current administration.
Umahi maintained that many voters who previously supported Obi have begun to reassess their political choices based on the projects being executed by the Federal Government, he suggested that development efforts in the region could play a major role in shaping voter decisions during the next election cycle.
According to the minister, the South-East has witnessed renewed investment in critical infrastructure, including highways and transportation networks, he noted that several projects that had remained uncompleted for many years are now receiving funding and attention under the Tinubu administration.
“The people of the South-East region will gladly reject their own son, Peter Obi, and vote for President Tinubu in next year’s election,” Umahi said.
