Former Senator Shehu Sani targeted the African Democratic Congress (ADC), an opposition party that has drawn numerous notable figures from both the PDP and APC eras. He characterized it as a coalition formed by the same political players who oversaw Nigeria’s decline during the PDP’s rule from 1999 to 2015 and the APC’s from 2015 to 2023.
Sani contended that the ADC does not signify a true fresh start for Nigerian politics; rather, it consists of those responsible for the nation’s current problems, individuals who have cycled through government roles, contributing to Nigeria’s issues before rebranding themselves under a new party to present themselves as potential saviors.
He noted that Nigeria’s political landscape is trapped in a repetitive cycle, where the same individuals shift between parties, opting for whichever platform is most politically advantageous at the moment, yet producing the same dismal results for the Nigerian populace due to their unchanged philosophical and ideological stances. Sani emphasized that the only viable way forward for Nigeria is to ensure accountability from those in power for the specific commitments they make and the reforms they pledge to implement.
Sani remarked, “Who constitutes the opposition in Nigeria? We label them the ADC. Those who contributed to the country’s destruction from 1999 to 2015 are in the ADC. Those responsible for Nigeria’s decline from 2015 to 2023 are also in the ADC. The individuals involved in both phases of this degradation are found within the ADC. Ideologically and philosophically, they remain the same; they simply have different acronyms.”
