Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama has questioned the circumstances surrounding an alleged 40-day pause in attacks by Boko Haram, saying the development warrants public scrutiny and investigation.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Kaigama claimed the temporary halt in attacks suggested that discussions had taken place behind the scenes.
“If Boko Haram can pause attacks for 40 days, Nigerians should ask who negotiated it,” he said.
Kaigama argued that if an armed group was able to suspend attacks for a defined period, the public deserves to know how such an arrangement was reached. He maintained that the issue should be thoroughly investigated, as it could provide insight into ongoing efforts to address the conflict.
He also claimed that those involved in the discussions were aware of the reported pause and said the development should not be overlooked. According to Kaigama, understanding the circumstances surrounding the alleged ceasefire could help explain events in affected communities.
The remarks were made during a broader discussion on insecurity, mediation efforts and the government’s response to terrorism in northeastern Nigeria.
