Morgan Rogers Reveals Role He’ll Be Playing at Chelsea After Xabi Alonso Chat

Morgan Rogers has revealed that discussions with Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso played a major role in his decision to join the club, saying the Spaniard’s tactical vision convinced him to move to Stamford Bridge.

According to the London Evening Standard, Rogers said Alonso’s attacking philosophy and plans for his role aligned with his own ambitions. The England international believes the manager’s system, which gives creative attackers freedom in the final third, will help him continue his development.

Having impressed at Aston Villa with his versatility, Rogers said he is comfortable playing across the front line. While Cole Palmer is expected to remain Chelsea’s primary attacking midfielder, Rogers is likely to operate mainly from the left while also providing options as a right winger or in the No. 10 role.

The 23-year-old said Alonso’s willingness to allow attacking players to express themselves was a key factor in his decision. His versatility is expected to give Chelsea greater tactical flexibility as the club prepares for the new season, with speculation continuing over Alejandro Garnacho’s future.
