Former Senator Rufai Sani Hanga has criticized former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso over claims that concerns about his age and health prevented him from contesting for political office.
According to a Daily Post report published on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Hanga described the reasons allegedly given for denying him opportunities to contest for positions, including deputy governor and a return to the Senate, as unfair and politically motivated.
The former lawmaker, a former ally of Kwankwaso and member of the Kwankwasiyya movement, maintained that he remains physically fit and capable of serving in public office. He said his leg condition had never affected his legislative duties and should not be used to question his ability to perform.
Hanga also rejected age as a basis for determining a candidate’s suitability for office, arguing that many politicians continue to serve effectively despite advancing age.
“As of today, I’m healthier than Kwankwaso. If he is talking about my age, how old was he when he became governor, and how old is he now as a vice-presidential candidate?” Hanga said.
