Former All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant for Osun West, Peter Ogundeji, has defected to the Accord Party alongside thousands of his supporters, citing Governor Ademola Adeleke’s performance in office as the reason for his decision.
According to a Vanguard report published on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Ogundeji announced his defection at a gathering held at the Government House open field in Osogbo, where he pledged to support Adeleke’s bid for a second term.
The Ejigbo-born politician said he initially joined the APC without fully understanding the political landscape but changed his position after assessing the governor’s developmental achievements. He also withdrew his previous criticisms of Adeleke’s administration, saying they were made during political competition and did not reflect his true assessment.
Ogundeji praised the administration’s welfare policies, particularly for civil servants and pensioners, and criticized the APC’s candidate selection process, alleging it favours influential individuals over ordinary members.
He urged other APC members to support Adeleke’s re-election, expressing confidence that the governor’s performance had earned broad public approval across the state.
