‘I Would’ve Slapped You If You Were Igbo’ – Police Officers Accused of Extortion Threaten Traveler [VIDEO]

A video showing officers of the Nigeria Police Force allegedly attempting to extort a traveler along the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway has sparked widespread public outrage.

In the 2-minute, 34-second footage, one of the officers at a checkpoint is heard demanding money from the traveler, who identified himself as a resident of Akure. The traveler declined, saying he had nothing to offer and would have given them money if he did.

His refusal reportedly led to a heated exchange with the officers. During the confrontation, one officer was heard saying, “I would have slapped you and detained you if you were Igbo.”

The video, which circulated widely on Friday, prompted strong reactions on social media, with many users calling for an investigation into the officers’ conduct and appropriate disciplinary action.

The incident has drawn renewed attention to allegations of extortion and misconduct at police checkpoints. At the time of reporting, the Nigeria Police Force had not publicly responded to the viral video or the allegations.
