Peter Obi has responded to remarks by his reported running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, regarding an alleged written agreement that he would serve only one four-year term if elected president in the 2027 election.
Speaking in a video circulated by Advocacy For Good Governance, Obi said his commitment to a single term is longstanding and not dependent on a written document. He argued that a leader’s public promise should carry the same weight as a signed agreement.
According to Obi, campaign promises are commitments made directly to the people and should be honored without the need for additional documentation. He maintained that integrity in leadership is demonstrated by keeping such promises.
Obi also reaffirmed his pledge to promote national unity, describing it as one of his key priorities if elected president.
He concluded that campaign promises constitute a binding understanding between political leaders and the citizens who entrust them with public office, insisting that his public commitment to serve only one term and work toward uniting Nigeria should be regarded as a firm promise to the Nigerian people.
