Owolabi Adebayo, a member of the forest guards who neutralized bandits and rescued nine kidnapped victims in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, has called for improved equipment to strengthen operations against armed groups.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Adebayo said the bandits possess more advanced firearms than those available to the forest guards, making confrontations increasingly difficult.
He urged the government to provide additional operational gear, including body armour, binoculars, night vision goggles, walkie-talkies, and more ammunition to enhance the guards’ effectiveness during missions.
“Sir, we are facing a lot of challenges because those people we are talking about, what they are carrying surpasses what is in our hands, especially rifles. There is no type of firearm that they don’t have. We need more equipment such as body armour, binoculars, night vision goggles, walkie-talkies. We also need plenty of ammunition to engage them,” Adebayo said.
