State-recruited forest guards, working alongside the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilantes, have killed three bandits and rescued nine kidnapped farmers during a joint security operation in Obbo Aiyegunle, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
One of the rescued victims, Umaru Muazu, recounted his ordeal in an interview with Arise TV, saying he was attacked while preparing to leave on his motorcycle with his son at about 4:57 p.m.
“After the day activities… some men came from nowhere and put guns to my head. A friend, a Yoruba man, came with his bike to help me. I told him to just run away and that I would be all right, but while he was still with me, those bandits came back in greater numbers, hit me and my friend, and we fell to the ground again,” Muazu said.
He said the initial attack involved four bandits and that other traders also tried to help before he urged them to flee, fearing the attackers would return. Muazu added that the bandits later seized his friend’s motorcycle and abducted him, his son, and his friend before security operatives rescued them.
