Dr. Omenazu Jackson, Chancellor of the Inti Society for Social Justice and Human Rights, has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging that its approach to investigating and prosecuting financial crimes is selective.
Speaking in an interview published by Arise News on August 1, 2026, Jackson claimed the commission focuses largely on prosecuting internet fraud suspects accused of scams involving between N2 million and N5 million, while individuals accused of looting billions of naira are allegedly not held accountable.
“Generally, EFCC is getting weaker and weaker every day in terms of investigation and prosecution. They chase more of Yahoo boys who scam people for 2 million, 3 million… But those who scam the nation, billions are walking free. That is the surprise,” he said.
Jackson argued that the disparity raises concerns about the fairness and effectiveness of Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts. He called on the EFCC to apply the law consistently, regardless of an individual’s status or political influence, and urged greater accountability in cases involving public funds and alleged high-level financial crimes.
