According to a report by PUNCH on August 1, 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the academic credentials and personal particulars submitted by President Bola Tinubu and other candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.
Tinubu’s documents state that he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Chicago State University, United States, graduating with honours on June 22, 1979. They also indicate he completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in Oyo State between December 1982 and November 1983, worked at Mobil Nigeria Limited from 1983 to 1992, served as Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, and was born on March 29, 1952, in Lagos.

The documents also outline Vice President Kashim Shettima’s educational background, including his primary and secondary education, a Second Class Upper degree in Agriculture from the University of Maiduguri, a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan, and NYSC service from October 1989 to October 1990.
INEC said the public display of Form EC9 is required under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and contains candidates’ credentials, personal particulars and affidavits. The commission said members of the public may challenge any alleged forgery through the courts and announced that campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections will begin on August 19.
